The Department of Informatics and Media is part of the Faculty of Social Science at Uppsala University and since September 15, 2015 the department is led by the Head of the Department and Chairperson of the Department Board Jenny Eriksson Lundström and Deputy Head of Department Mats Edenius. They are responsible for the daily management and executive of the Board's decisions.

The Department Board members are elected for three years (student representatives are elected for one year).

The Department of Informatics and Media has a broad research profile, focusing on current research topics and societal challenges, among other, information systems, interaction design and media and communication. The Department of Informatics and Media offers Bachelor and Master programmes and courses within the Faculty of Social Sciences. From the Fall 2016, the Department offers a new Bachelor Programme in Information Systems at Campus Gotland. The department turnover is approx. 60 million SEK. The department has 60 employees.
